Situation:

Iconex LLC was investigating the potential acquisition of two companies involved primarily in the production of point of sale receipt paper rolls made of lightweight thermal paper. The companies had converting operations in the UK, France, Germany, and Denmark, and served customers across the EU.

Ameridan’s Role:

As part of its due-diligence process, Iconex engaged Ameridan Diligence LLC to conduct a market diligence project primarily focused on the thermal receipt paper markets in Germany and Denmark. The project scope included four areas of inquiry:

• An assessment of the largest end markets for thermal receipt papers including demand drivers, market trends (e.g., migration from paper to pixels), and medium-term growth prospects;
• An overview of the competitive landscape, including an assessment of the market position of the target companies;
• A primary/secondary research scan to identify other relevant market trends/developments which might significantly impact the target companies;
• An assessment of market perceptions regarding the quality of imported thermal papers and the usage/acceptability of these papers amongst large merchants.
